Belt distance is measured from bottom of frame to bottom of Idler weight.

Frequentyly Asked Questions

What's the difference between disc skimmers and belt skimmers?

A disc skimmer mounts to the top of the tank and runs a large diameter disc into the liquid's surface. A belt skimmer mounts to the tank and runs a belt down into the liquid surface. Both draw oil and collect it in a separate container. They each have advantages. A disc skimmer is cheaper and removes more oil per hour, but can't go as deep as a belt skimmer. A disc skimmer requires more room to operate, but works faster than a belt skimmer. Belt skimmers fit into limited access areas and can reach deep into water or tanks.

How is the skimmer measured?

A belt skimmer is measured by the amount of reach it has from bottom of the motor to the bottom of the pulley. Disc skimmers are measured by the diameter of the disc and the reach of the disc into the liquid.

What sizes are available for discs skimmers?

Carol Company disc skimmers are available in ranges of sizes from 8 inch to 24 inch. The difference is the depth each disc goes into the liquid.

8-inch goes in about 1 inch.
12-inch goes in about 4 inches.
18-inch go in about 5 inches.
24-inch goes in about 6 to 8 inches.

What if my belt is no longer picking up oil?

If your skimmer uses a polyurethane belt and is no longer working properly, it may need to be cleaned with alcohol.

Will a skimmer remove all the oil?

If the tank has no baffles, skimmers will be able to remove nearly all of the oil. When baffels are present, skimmers should be moved, or multiple placed, into different sections for more thorough oil removal.
